The Fundamentals

Excellent teachers matter.

Central to our mission is the notion that the development of an authentic and nurturing relationship with a caregiver shapes a child's experience and growth.

Why?

Children develop best when they have secure consistent relationships with responsive adults... Nurturing relationships are vital in fostering high self esteem and a strong sense of self-efficacy, capacity in resolving interpersonal conflicts cooperatively, and the sociability to connect with others and form friendship. Further, by providing positive models and the security and confidence to try new experiences and attempt new skills, such relationships support children’s learning and the acquisition of numerous capabilities." - NAEYC. 2009. Position Statement on Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8.

Our teachers C.A.R.E

Communicate skillfully: We make it a priority assume the best intentions of others. When in doubt, we ask questions and seek clarification instead of jumping to conclusions. We listen first because we believe the purpose of dialogue is to learn from others, not solely to convey one point of view. While listening, we empathetically take on a perspective that is different from our own. Always solutions oriented, we communicate clearly and directly.

Act with purpose: We expect each other to always ask why and avoid over-focusing on what and how. Why? Prioritizing the “why” helps guard against complacency. Our decisions are child-centered and consistently grounded in all aspects of the A Mother’s Touch mission.

Reflect and pursue excellence: We embrace a growth mindset, continually reflecting on and actively improving our performance so that we can best support our children. We commit to staying current regarding what is known about how children grow and develop by continuing education and maintaining Gateways credentials. We regularly initiate reflection on information about each child to guide instruction and to support each child in reaching feasible and ambitious goals.

Effectively support the team: We look for opportunities to learn from one another, from our children, and from our families. Our team is successful when each person demonstrates flexibility and strong follow through. Our team values relationships and regularly seeks ways to serve each other and the broader school community.

Before being hired at the Cook County Sheriff's Police, I was a “Waddler” teacher at A Mother's Touch of Des Plaines. I interviewed and toured many daycare schools within the area after my move to Illinois 18 months ago. I must say, this facility was the cleanest and most organized child care center in town! The staff members are beyond caring, reliable, friendly, respectful, and loving towards everyone that walks through the front door. The first day I stepped inside, I felt part of the "AMT Family.” The teachers guide and encourage each child, believing that each child can do anything if putting heart into it. The teachers at the center have positive attitudes all around, and they make learning fun for each child's growing mind. The center provides healthy, nutritional food, and they take food allergies very seriously. When I have my own little one, I already know the perfect place to put them when I’m on shift. Thank you, AMT, for your loving support and for everything you have taught me! - Ms. Amy
It is my lifetime goal to educate children. With great teaching comes responsibility. When our children are in school, I am not only the children’s teacher, I am also a doctor to aid them when sick or hurt and a companion to deepen their play and listen to stories. Most of all, I am a nurturing caregiver that loves our children and a person that parents can trust. It is my passion to teach at A Mother’s Touch because as part of this teaching team, I know that our children will always be nurtured and loved." - Ms. Rose
